It was an intense night of European soccer as the first legs of the UEFA Europa League semifinals took place on Thursday. Goals by Florian Wirtz and Robert Andrich gave Bayer Leverkusen a 2-0 lead over Roma in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
Leverkusen inflicted Roma's first home defeat in 14 Europa League knockout matches. It was also only the second home loss by an Italian side in the competition's history.
Leverkusen's victory means they are now unbeaten in their last 47 matches in all competitions, a run that stretches back to October. The German side will take a two-goal advantage into the second leg at home next week.
