McTominay Goal Canceled Out by Shaqiri Strike

STUTTGART, Germany (AP) - Scotland's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time in their history were dealt a blow on Friday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Switzerland in their opening game of Euro 2024.

Scott McTominay gave the Scots the lead in the 25th minute, but Xherdan Shaqiri equalized for the Swiss just before half-time.

Despite having Granit Xhaka sent off early in the second half, Switzerland held on for a point to leave Scotland frustrated.

The result leaves Scotland needing to beat Croatia in their next game to have any chance of progressing from Group C.
